Location descriptionTo take this photograph, I stood facing north-east, just off the road between Riversong Farm and Thabela Thabeng. There is a bit of a rise that gives you a good view of the valley.
Location cairnNO
Landscape changesThe original looks like it was taken after a harvest - probably in winter. This land here is no longer farmed for plants but rather is privately owned and used for tourism (accommodation) and to keep some game (antelope, like bontebok; and goats too on Thabela's land). There is a huge amount more vegetation growth along the river so even in winter you can't see the water (as is visible in the original to the right). Aside from the grasses and thorn trees, there is a cultivated pecan nut tree 'forest' on the river past Thabela - probably one of the oldest pecan nut plantations in the area (and there are now many of them).
Weather conditionsA magnificent day - hot and clear.
